Outage: PPC circuits

Posted: Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 at 11:22 by David Derrick

We are currently experiencing a problem with one of the bearers carrying PPC circuits into us, affecting approximately 1/3 of our PPC customers. A fault has been raised with our supplier, further updates will follow as we receive them.

  1. Neil Watson says:

We are still working with the carrier to rectify the issues being seen, and in order to cover all eventualities have despatched an engineer to site with a replacement line card should this be required. Further updates as we get them.

  2. Steve Lalonde says:

We have just been informed that the carrier has also dispatched an engineer to site.

  3. Steve Lalonde says:

Engineers are now on site, Currently looks like either a faulty fiber or a faulty blade.

We are currently swapping the fiber to a spare pair, if this is unsuccessful we will swap the blade.

  4. Steve Lalonde says:

It seems that it is hard for our Carrier to change the fibers. We have now replaced the blade in our router and it has had no effect. This has proved that the problem is a faulty fiber.

We are trying to get the Carrier to swap to the spare pair.

  5. Neil Watson says:

We’ve just received notification that the fibers have been swapped and service has been restored. This is also evident from our monitoring. An outage report will be produced and posted on this site for your information. We will be raising the amount of time taken to resolve this issue with the carrier concerned.

  6. Steve Lalonde says:

It appears the bearer has failed again, we still have engineers on site and we are investigating.

  7. Steve Lalonde says:

Service has now been restored again, we have had new tails spliced on to the fiber.

Affected circuits should still be classed as At Risk.

Outage: 10Gbps link Manchester to London

Posted: Friday, March 7th, 2008 at 10:58 by Neil Watson

Our monitoring is currently showing that the 10Gbps link between London and Manchester is currently down. Traffic is being routed via alternative paths in the network and we are not experiencing or anticipating any issues. We will of course ensure that the link is restored as soon as possible.

  1. Martyn Haynes says:

We have been advised that our supplier has a fibre cut in the UK between Bristol and Froxfield (approx 10:41 GMT)

They are in the process of having Engineers dispatched to locate the fault.

An update will be posted as soon more information becomes available.

  2. Martyn Haynes says:

    From our suppliers;

Engineers have arrived on site – a construction site 2 KM’s outside Bristol. They have located the fault and are
    preparing to start work.

We do not as of yet have an ETR for the repair.

We will update you when we have more information available.

  3. Steve Lalonde says:

    Service is now restored.

Note: Engineers are still on site to ensure that the area is closed off
correctly and that all civil works are completed.
