Planned maintenance: smtp.enta.net

Posted: Monday, March 23rd, 2009 at 11:01 by David Derrick

30 March 2009

The servers smtp1 and smtp2 will be replaced with upgraded boxes. On the date above, the round-robin DNS for smtp.enta.net will be changed to remove those 2 servers and add 2 new ones. The old servers will continue to accept mail for 1 week to allow DNS servers to pick up the change. On 6 April 2009 they will stop accepting new mail but they will be kept running until any queued mail is delivered.

Please note that the only supported way to acess our outgoing mail servers is via the name smtp.enta.net. Anyone using that should not have any problem as a result of this change.

  1. David Derrick says:

The new servers are working and have been handling mail for the past hour. Please report any problems to Entanet support in the normal way. Please include at least the IP you are connecting from and the time in any reports.

  2. David Derrick says:

smtp1 and smtp2 are no longer accepting new mail. Before contacting support about problems sending mail, please ensure that you are using smtp.enta.net as the name for your outgoing mail server and that any DNS caches have been flushed.

Planned Maintenance: Global Switch and Telehouse East

Posted: Thursday, March 19th, 2009 at 12:25 by Neil Watson

Tuesday, March 24th 00.00hrs – 06:00hrs

Engineers will be in attendance at Global Switch (London) in the early hours of Tuesday 24th March 2009 in order to relocate core PWAN management equipment to Telehouse East in order to improve resilience and performance on these services.  Directly affected customers will be informed of any planned outages prior to this time, however as work is being carried out in and around core services, all services at these sites should be considered at risk during this window. This maintenance is rescheduled from March 13th as problems were encountered during the previous window.

Outage: Edinburgh and Newcastle

Posted: Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 at 21:58 by Neil Watson

We are aware of issues that are affecting our Edinburgh and Newcastle pops. A fault has been reported and we will restore connectivity as soon as we possibly can.

  1. Neil Watson says:

We now have confirmation that there is a fibre cut between Middlesbrough and Washington that is affecting multiple circuits. There is no ETR at present, we will update when further information is available.

  2. Steve Lalonde says:

Service was restored shortly before 03:45

  3. Neil Watson says:

An outage report is now available for this incident. It can be found here

VoIP Platform: Incoming Calls

Posted: Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 at 14:53 by Martyn Haynes

We are aware of an issue whereby VoIP customers are experiencing one-way audio on incoming calls where the caller has withheld their number.

This appears to be a problem with an upstream carrier who have been notified of the issue and our VoIP engineering team are monitoring this.

Further updates will be provided as they become available.

  1. Jon Farmer says:

This fault was identified as an issue with a TDM gateway recently updated by one of our carrier partners. A fix has now been implemented and tested.

Some customers may have experienced calls cutting off earlier this morning while we made the fix. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Outage: Bristol

Posted: Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 16:23 by David Derrick

There is a suspected fibre break affecting our Bristol POP. Engineers are en route to the site at the moment.

  1. David Derrick says:

Latest update from our supplier is that service is expected to be restored in 2 hours.

  2. David Derrick says:

Lastest update, our supplier encountered further problems overnight. Splicing teams are still working on the break, new ETR 10:00.

  3. David Derrick says:

Service has now been restored but we are advised that engineers are still working at the site. Service should be considered ‘at risk’ until we have confirmation that all work is closed off.
