At Risk: Slough POP

Posted: Thursday, February 27th, 2014 at 16:06 by Gurinder Bansal

We are currently dealing with a fault on one of the network links serving our Slough POP. The POP itself and all services terminating on it (including the 20CN and 21CN interconnects) should be considered at risk due to the loss of resilience.

Further updates will be provided as and when the issue has been rectified.

  1. Richard Partridge says:

Our supplier has advised that the fault on the network link relates to malicious damage resulting from cable theft. Repair work is underway and we are chasing for an ETR.

  2. Richard Partridge says:

Our supplier has advised that they’re currently working towards an ETR of 20:00hrs.

  3. Richard Partridge says:

Our supplier has advised that the fault has been rectified and service has been stable for approximately two hours. Resilience to the Slough POP has now been restored and we will keep the circuit under observation.

WBC cannot connect issues

Posted: Thursday, February 20th, 2014 at 09:50 by Neil Watson

We are currently experiencing an issue that is preventing some DSL users connecting to our service. Our initial investigations indicate that this is a BT issue and we are working with them to resolve as soon as possible. The issue spans multiple nodes and is not geographically restrained to one area. We are aiming to have the service restored as a matter of urgency.

  1. Neil Watson says:

Customer sessions are now being restored and our monitoring indicates that the majority of services are now working again. We’ve yet to receive details from BT as to the cause but will update when we have further information.

  2. Neil Watson says:

BT have now advised of the following:

Connectivity has been restored as of 10:03, and service is being seen to re-establish for CPs, since the RADIUS traffic was moved to the other half of the platform in Manchester.

This would have been impacting all CPs, and call volumes are now returning to normal volumes.

Investigations continue into what caused the loss of connectivity to the RADIUS authentication platform

This impacted approx half the 21CN WBC broadband platform, south of the UK. Existing broadband sessions were not affected but anyone who needed to re-establish after a session drop would not have been able to get on and authenticate.

Customer DDOS attack

Posted: Monday, February 17th, 2014 at 13:04 by Neil Watson

We are aware that an individual customer has been the victim of a large DDOS attack which has had some impact on our network. During the attack performance for some customers may have been degraded. We were able to identify the affected customer and took corrective action to remove the traffic from our network. Levels have now returned to normal and we will continue to monitor for further attacks.

At-Risk: Telford Power

Sunday 16th February 2014 09:00 – 17:00

We have been notified by Western Power Distribution that they will be carrying out planned work on the power network during the above window.

We have been advised that the work will not affect our power supply, but after recent power issues we thought it prudent to raise the work as at-risk.
